Lately, Biograft is getting some attention as the latest hair loss treatment but how does it compare with ARTAS®? While both are surgical procedures they have key differences. Let’s examine both techniques.
For thousands of years, hair replacement involved various forms of wigs. Surgical hair restoration techniques were a game-changer. Actual transplanted hair grows normally and once successful, requires no follow-up for maintenance. It’s real hair, unlike hair weaves or hair extensions.
Surgical Hair Restoration & Hair Transplants
Modern surgery tends to fall into one of two categories, both of which involve transplanting hair follicles to a new location – FUT or FUE.
Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)

vs. Follicular Unit Excision (FUE)

What is Biograft?
Biograft mixes surgical and non-surgical techniques. The process starts with Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) performed by hand by a surgeon to restore the hairline. Then, the non-surgical Xtrands+ technique is added to fill in the remaining areas. Xtrands+ is a specialized sort of hair extension that attaches strands of real hair to nearby hair. Finally, the hair is styled according to the person’s preferences.
Because of the Xtrands+ component, follow-ups are required every 4-8 weeks, depending upon how fast the hair that’s been attached takes to grow. The grown-out Xtrands+ are removed as needed and fresh strands are attached closer to the scalp.
What is The ARTAS® Robotic Hair Transplant System?
The ARTAS® Hair Transplant System is a Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) system. The procedure is performed by our certified surgeon, Dr. Baiju Gohil using a state-of-the-art robot for more precise targeting. This means greater ability to restore hair in a natural-looking way with greater control. Fewer hair follicles can be used, if appropriate, which means faster, easier healing and recovery.
Even better, follow-up appointments are not necessary once the transplants fully heal. With Biograft, Xstrand appointments are required so long as you want the hair extension results to continue.
Which Hair Tranplant Method is Right for You?
That depends upon your preference and specific form of hair loss. Full FUE hair transplants provide more long-lasting results and robotic FUE, like that done by Dr. Gohil of RHRLI, has the fastest recovery time and least discomfort.
