Frequently Asked Questions
How long does the procedure take?
Most hair restoration procedures take between 6 and 10 hours, depending on the number of grafts and the technique used for your case. You’ll spend the day at our Long Island office, with breaks built in for meals and rest. Most patients head home the same evening and don’t need an overnight stay.
When will I see results?
Hair restoration is a gradual process — not an overnight one. Initial new growth typically starts around the 3 to 4 month mark. Most patients see meaningful density between 6 and 9 months, and full results around 12 to 15 months after the procedure. Dr. Barsoumian will walk you through what to realistically expect for your specific case during your evaluation.
Am I a candidate for hair restoration?
Most adults with stable hair loss and healthy donor hair are potential candidates. Several factors matter: the pattern of hair loss, donor supply, age and overall health, and what you want the result to look like. Some people are better served by non-surgical options first. The only way to know for sure is a medical evaluation — that’s exactly what the free consultation is designed for.
What is recovery like?
Most patients return to non-strenuous work and daily activities within 2 to 3 days. The donor area may feel tender for about a week, and you’ll see some scabbing in the recipient area that typically clears within 7 to 10 days. We provide detailed post-procedure care instructions, and follow-up visits are part of your treatment plan.
Is the procedure painful?
Most patients report minimal discomfort during the procedure. Local anesthesia is used to numb the treatment area, so you should remain comfortable throughout the process. Mild soreness or tightness afterward is normal and typically resolves within a few days.
