Will My Hair Transplant Be Pain-Free?

a man experiencing stress and pain.

A city councilman from Ireland went an awfully long way to suffer a lot of unnecessary pain. According to the Irish News website irishexaminer.com, Kenneth O’Flynn who serves in the Cork City Council went all the way Turkey to undergo a hair transplant that he called “Bloody painful.”

“I had done an awful lot of research and I was told I was going to be in pain,” he said. “What I didn’t really think about was the amount of discomfort I’d have for the first two weeks after getting the operation done.”

O’Flynn’s problem wasn’t that he was attempting to find a permanent solution to his hair loss. The problem was that he chose the wrong solution. He should have chosen the ARTAS® System, the state-of-the-art robotic hair restoration procedure available at RHRLI.

RHRLI Offers a Minimally Invasive Hair Transplant

RHRLI and ARTAS® offer a hair transplant without discomfort and won’t leave you recovering for two weeks. One of the most frequent questions we get from patients is, “Will it be painful?” We’re happy to answer that many of our patients report little or no pain after undergoing the ARTAS® procedure. Since we know how important that is, we want to discuss your hair restoration options and let you know why RHRLI and ARTAS® is your best choice.

The RHRLI and ARTAS® Difference

Let’s go back to what happened to O’Flynn. He explained that he had difficulty sleeping for weeks after the surgery. “I had 4,300 hairs donated from the back of my head. They’re taken on a strip, then they’re divided one-by-one and they’re implanted.”

The procedure O’Flynn is describing is called Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), or “strip surgery.” It is older than the ARTAS® procedure and uses more invasive techniques. During strip surgery, a strip of scalp is removed from the back of a patient’s head using a scalpel. Stitches are then used to close the wound, according to the ARTAS® website. The ARTAS® system is a robotic Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) procedure that uses a robotic arm to target individual donor hairs with precision. ARTAS® patients won’t need stitches once the transplant is over and they won’t need prescription pain medication. Most ARTAS® patients just need acetaminophen.

Strip surgery leaves a scar which usually requires patients to hide it by wearing longer hairstyles. ARTAS® patients have the freedom to wear any type of hairstyle they want. And one of the biggest benefits of ARTAS® is the recovery time. You’ll be back to your normal life in just a few days. You won’t be recovering for several weeks and unlike O’Flynn, most ARTAS® patients are able to sleep comfortably without pain after their procedure.
