Is Nationality Linked To Hair Loss?

Is nationality linked to hair loss?Hair thinning and loss is an unfortunate reality for most of us. The vast majority of men – and  nearly half of all women – will have experienced hair loss by the time they reach their senior years. Since hair loss affects many (but not all) people, it has continuously inspired people to ask why that is and try to figure out the reasons in an attempt to prevent hair loss in the future.

There are many factors that can expedite hair loss – such as age, stress, and diet. Genetics and ethnicity have also been examined before to see how they may contribute to hair loss as well. While genetics have certainly been shown to be a contributing factor to predicting hair loss, could where we live also affect it?

Does Lifestyle and Environment Affect Hair Loss?

There is certainly evidence that lifestyles and the environment affect your overall hair health which can exacerbate hair thinning and loss.

For example, one of the countries with the highest rate of hair loss is Czechia (also known as The Czech Republic). When you examine the culture, you see the typical Czech diet leans toward salty foods and meat while also having fewer vegetables on average. That kind of diet is missing sources for key nutrients in order to maintain good hair health. While we may never have a definitive answer for why that is the case, it would be a good explanation for such a phenomenon.

Do Different Climates Affect Hair Loss?

Climate has different ways of effecting hair health. An important factor in our hair health is our skin – specifically the scalp.

Colder, dryer climates can cause your skin to become dry. Dry skin can lead to an itchy skin, and an itchy scalp can lead to hair loss. Itching, in addition to skin being damaged from being too dry, can lead to damage to the affected hair follicles causing permanent hair loss.

Does Moving Countries Cause Hair Loss?

The actual moving to another country doesn’t necessarily cause hair loss. However, the stress involved can contribute to hair thinning and loss. Sustained stress can be a major factor in some forms of hair loss… and moving to another country can be one of the most stressful situations you can put yourself through for a sustained period of time.
