Robotic FUE hair restoration is a permanent process and once you’re fully healed you can use any hair products you want. Shortly after the procedure, though, gentle products are better, and before or after hair restoration, some products better than others for a healthy scalp and hair.
What Products Are Best After a Hair Transplant?
For the first week after your ARTAS® hair restoration procedure, using baby shampoo is important. The transplant area can be tender and baby shampoo is gentle enough to minimize irritation. It’s even better to mix the baby shampoo with water in a cup and then wash with the diluted shampoo.
Be gentle massaging in the shampoo solution. Because your scalp may be tender it’s best not to let the shower beat on your head. Instead, rinse your hair by filling the cup with water and pouring it onto your scalp. Don’t rub your hair dry with a towel. Instead pat it gently with the towel.
What Hair Products Should I Avoid?
Not all hair products are created equal. Some ingredients are harsh on hair and scalp. Others are prone to building up on your hair, making it lifeless. Other products, like Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), are banned in the European Union due to safety concerns.
Unfortunately, one product hair experts regularly suggest you avoid is also extremely common – sulfates. They are frequently listed on labels as sodium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate as well as sodium laureth ether sulfate. Sulfates make shampoos and body washes feel sudsy but they’re also harsh on your hair and scalp. While they’re in a lot of products, inexpensive shampoo tends to have a higher percentage.
Other Haircare Ingredients to Avoid:
- Parabens
- Cocamide DEA
- Isopropyl Alcohol
- Silicones
- Behentrimonium Chloride
