Beard, Eyebrow, & Facial Hair Transplants

Eyebrow Restoration

Eyebrows help to create facial symmetry and balance for all genders. Since the eyebrows are in the central facial position framing the eyes, they have an essential role in one’s appearance and facial expression.

For those individuals who are unhappy and self-conscious about the appearance of their eyebrows, a loss of confidence may result. There are several reasons why eyebrows can thin out – including over-plucking, systemic disease, congenital absence, and aging.

Surgical Technique

The eyebrow hair transplant procedure takes about 4-6 hours with minimal discomfort and is performed under local anesthesia and oral sedation. A combination of expert surgical technique and aesthetic artistry is required to achieve a natural result.

The hair is usually harvested using FUE from a part of the back of the scalp that best matches the texture of your existing eyebrow follicles. The site making and implanting are performed in a very acute angle to the skin… using single hair follicular grafts to mimic the natural contours of eyebrow hairs.

In addition, these follicles are rotated to account for the natural and unique flow of the eyebrow. The direction of the follicles is also altered throughout the entire eyebrow to blend with the naturally occurring changes within the eyebrow.

What To Expect Afterwards

Minimal soreness is expected, but manageable with over-the-counter analgesics.

The implanted hair grafts will fall out within the first two to four weeks following the procedure. At around three to five months, they will start to grow and continue to mature. But the final aesthetic result will take about fifteen months to be seen.

The implanted hairs will grow longer than the native eyebrow follicles. Eyebrow hairs will require more frequent trimming to maintain a desirable length with normal tweezing and shaping.

Beard & Facial Hair Restoration

Beard, goatee, and mustache hair restoration has gained a lot of popularity in recent years. Some men desire to have a more prominent lower facial aesthetic appearance and may lack facial hair for a variety of reasons.

For some people, a facial hair transplant may be to improve density, balance, and symmetry in their face. Certain ethnicities are less likely to have strong facial hair profiles and may seek out a hair transplant procedure to achieve a more “masculine” look. And others may be looking to camouflage certain facial features.

Surgical Technique

Facial hair transplant procedures take about 4-6 hours using local anesthesia and oral sedation, with minimal discomfort. The artistic design of facial hair graft placement is achieved using facial hair restoration principles and the patient’s own coverage goals – in order to achieve a natural look.

The harvesting of the hairs can be performed using FUT from the back of the scalp or FUE from the back of the scalp and/or other parts of the beard (typically under the jawline). This all depends on how much coverage is desired and the adequacy of the respective donor regions.

The site-making and implanting are done in a manner to mimic existing hairs, which creates a natural and blended appearance. A combination of one and two-haired grafts are used to achieve adequate density.

What To Expect Afterward

Minimal discomfort is expected following a facial hair restoration procedure. Crusting or scabbing and minor swelling are expected in the recipient areas – which should be gone within a week following the procedure.

A normal shedding process of the implanted hairs occurs a couple of weeks after the procedure. Following this period, the new follicles will start to grow about three to five months after the procedure. Full growth will take twelve to fifteen months.

On occasion, patients may notice slight redness in the recipient site for about four to eight weeks… but this can be camouflaged. Shaving or trimming of your beard should be avoided for at least two weeks to allow the transplanted follicles to heal adequately.
