    Long Island

Long Island is home to the two most populous boroughs of New York City, Brooklyn, and Queens, as well as the affluent counties of Nassau County and Suffolk County. The total population of the island is about 7,804,968 with a population density of about 5,571 people per square mile. Long Island is the longest and largest island in the contiguous United States, and it is connected to the other boroughs of NYC through 13 tunnels and 9 bridges. The Long Island Railroad is the busiest commuter railroad in North America.

    New York City & Manhattan

While many residents of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens are commuters, Long Island does have a reputation for local businesses throughout the more affluent regions of Nassau and Suffolk counties. Because of the high commuter population in the more densely populated areas of the Island, Long Island’s economy is highly dependent on that of Manhattan.
