ARTAS, FUE, FUT & Non-Surgical: Your Path to the Next Version of You

Hair loss is personal, and so is the right solution. At RHRLI, we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all restoration. Some patients are ideal candidates for the ARTAS® Robotic FUE hair transplant we’re best known for on Long Island. Others benefit more from the time-tested Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) strip method when maximum graft count in a single session matters most. And for patients in earlier stages of hair loss, or those who prefer a minimally invasive approach, our non-surgical options including PRP therapy, Alma TED, and CapillusMD laser therapy can stimulate growth without surgery.

Dr. Raffi Barsoumian and the RHRLI team will walk you through each option during your consultation, assess your specific pattern and stage of hair loss, and recommend the approach, or combination of approaches, that fits your goals. Below are the questions patients ask us most often. If yours isn’t answered here, schedule a consultation and we’ll answer it together.

ARTAS® Hair Transplant Questions & Answers

Does the procedure hurt?

The ARTAS® Robotic Hair Transplant is an outpatient procedure that requires only a local anesthetic. Most patients experience minimal discomfort due to local anesthesia. Although you may feel a little bit of discomfort and swelling following your procedure, these symptoms should go away in 1 to 3 days.

How much will the ARTAS® Procedure cost?

During a consultation, your doctor will determine the proper cost of treatment based on the amount of new hair that is needed.

Do I need to cut my hair before receiving the ARTAS® Procedure?

Yes. During your consultation, we will provide you with instructions on how your hair should be trimmed. Getting your hair in the donor area trimmed helps the ARTAS® System to more carefully and accurately track and harvest the hairs that will be used for the transplant.

How much will the ARTAS® Procedure cost?

During a consultation, your doctor will determine the proper cost of treatment based on the amount of new hair that is needed.

Are the effects of the ARTAS® Procedure permanent?

Yes. The procedure takes permanent hair from the sides and back of your head and transplants it into areas where your hair has thinned out. Because the hair is taken from areas of the head that are not typically affected by male pattern baldness, it lasts permanently after being transplanted.

How long is the recovery time?

The recovery time is extremely fast! Because the ARTAS® Procedure is minimally invasive and uses small extraction sites rather than a typical strip excision. Stitches are typically not required and patients can usually resume their normal activities in 1 to 2 days.

When can I expect the new hair to start growing in?

New hair will begin to appear at 3 months. At about 6 months, you will see significant improvement in your hair growth, and after a year, the final results should be evident.

Will people notice that I have had a hair restoration procedure?

Since any scarring resulting from the procedure is insignificant and the new hair grows in gradually, it is less likely that people will know you had a hair restoration procedure. If anything, they will probably just notice that you look much better!

How long does the hair transplant take?

The procedure typically takes 4 to 8 hours, depending on how much hair you are having transplanted. We ensure a comfortable environment for you during your procedure.

Would a patient who had a prior follicular unit transplantation (FUT) procedure be a candidate for a follicular unit excision (FUE) procedure?

Yes. An FUE procedure may be necessary for one of the following reasons: the patient may have limited donor hair available for another procedure; the patient may have a tight scalp and another hair transplant procedure is not an option; the patient may have linear scarring from a previous FUT procedure and may not want another linear scar in the donor area, or may not want to go through the associated discomfort again.
