What’s the Difference Between No Shave November & Movember?

No Shave NovemberIt’s that time of year again. Men all over the country are opting to hold off shaving for the whole month as a part of No Shave November or Movember. While these two events are often lumped together and can sound like they’re the same thing, there are some big differences between the two to keep in mind before deciding to participate in one or the other. Are Bald Men Less Electable?

presidents with hair loss on postage stampsEvery time a presidential race comes along, “electability” becomes a topic of conversation. The much-repeated conventional wisdom is that candidates with hair loss do not win. In reality, the topic of baldness and politicians is more complicated – and the effect of baldness and elections even more so. The short answer is that they are not less electable… but that perception could make being elected a bit harder. [Read more…] about Are Bald Men Less Electable?

Questions & Answers About the ARTAS® Robot

Did you know that about two-thirds of men will experience visible hair thinning by the age of 35? Those who experience hair loss often seek hair transplants to restore their previous, more youthful appearance.

If you are one of the 80 million people in the United States affected by hair loss and are searching for a permanent solution, we have what you are looking for here at Robotic Hair Restoration of Long Island. We offer state-of-the-art hair restoration using the ARTAS® System.

The ARTAS® Hair Restoration Robot

Hair Transplants with ARTAS®

As a board-certified surgeon, my goal is always to create the best results for my patients. I chose the ARTAS® System because its advanced robotic technology allows me to perform minimally invasive hair transplants with follicle-by-follicle precision.

Through the ARTAS® hair transplant procedure, you will have fuller, healthier-looking, natural hair for good. If you are curious about what the ARTAS® System has to offer, let’s address the most common questions we receive from patients.

The RHRLI Edge: Benefits of ARTAS® Hair Transplants

Let’s start with the benefits of the ARTAS® System and what sets us apart here at RHRLI.

  • We use the most advanced hair transplantation technology

So, what makes the ARTAS® System so advanced? Simple. The ARTAS® Robotic Hair Transplant System provides digital technology that allows us to more accurately and consistently harvest and transplant your hair. Selecting and transplanting donor hair follicle by follicle ensures a natural hairline and faster healing. The high-resolution digital imaging provides real-time analysis to more accurately map out and analyze the natural hair groupings.

  • Our procedures do not require incisions and do not leave linear scars

Does the hair transplant procedure hurt? The ARTAS® Robotic Hair Transplant is an outpatient procedure that requires only a local anesthetic. During the procedure, you will feel virtually no pain. After the procedure, over-the-counter medication is more than sufficient if any discomfort occurs. Because the ARTAS® Robot implants individual hairs, scarring is minimal whereas traditional hair surgery involves a linear scar.

  • Our procedures result in fast recovery time

How quick is the hair transplant surgery recovery time? No time at all. You’ll recover extremely fast because the ARTAS® procedure is minimally invasive. Patients can usually resume their normal activities in 1 to 2 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How Long Does the Hair Transplant Take?

Depending on how much hair you are having transplanted, the procedure typically takes 4 to 8 hours.

  • When Can I Expect the New Hair to Start Growing In?

New hair will begin to appear at three months. At about six months, you will see significant improvement in your hair growth, and after a year, the final results should be evident.

  • Will people notice that I’ve had a hair restoration procedure?

Since the ARTAS® Robotic Hair Transplant System does not create a linear scar, and the new hair grows in gradually, it’s much less likely that people will realize you had a hair restoration procedure than with other previous methods like Follicle Unit Transplantation (FUT). If anything, people will notice that your appearance is more youthful.

Are Hair Restoration Results from ARTAS® Permanent?

Yes! The ARTAS® hair restoration process uses permanent hair from the back and sides of your head, known as donor hair areas, and transplants it to the thinning areas, restoring your hairline. The back and sides of the head are known as “donor hair” sites because those areas are not usually affected by male pattern hair loss, so transplanted hair stays permanently afterwards.

Does the Hair Restoration Process Hurt?

The ARTAS® Robotic Hair Restoration process is performed under a local anesthetic as an outpatient procedure. Patients feel virtually no pain during the procedure. Afterward, some feel a mild discomfort that is easily addressed by over-the-counter pain reliever. If post-procedure discomfort occurs, it’s usually gone within 1-3 days.

But don’t take our word for it. Listen to what a patient from Stony Brook had to say:

“I would highly recommend anyone thinking of using RHRLI. It was virtually painless, and I couldn’t believe how quickly I was back to my daily routine. Everyone at RHRLI was exceptional. They really care about every part of the process and wanted the best results for me.”

How Long Does It Take to Recover from a Hair Transplant?

Because the ARTAS® Robotic Hair Restoration process doesn’t involve stitches and is minimally invasive, recovery time is very quick. Patients typically go back to their normal activities in just one or two days

How Long Does the Hair Restoration Process Take?

Depending upon how much hair will need to be transplanted, it can take between four and eight hours. Regardless of the length of time for the procedure, our team ensures you are as comfortable as possible the entire time.

As one Long Island patient said,

“The day of the procedure I was welcomed by the incredible staff at RHRLI. We went over the day’s itinerary, and everyone was very accommodating. They attended to any and every question I had, and I had a lot of them. The procedure was smooth, straight-forward, and painless, thanks to the staff and the amazing ARTAS® Robot. Believe it or not, I almost fell asleep! It finished earlier than expected, and I was able to go home right away, without feeling a thing. I was extremely happy with my experience.”

Embarrassment About Hair Loss

Ricki Lake's Hair Loss StoryIt’s common to feel embarrassment about experiencing hair loss; especially for women. While it’s not as commonly talked about, up to half of all women will experience some form of hair loss during their lifetime. Part of why we don’t hear more about female pattern baldness is because of the lack of high-profile women and female celebrities that are understandably not open about their experiences with it.
